Explore the Piece Hall in Halifax
Explore the Grade 1 listed Piece Hall, one of the most remarkable places in Yorkshire.
The Grade 1 listed Piece Hall, a short walk from the station, is one of the most remarkable places in Yorkshire – the last remaining cloth hall of its size in Britain, the sole survivor of the great 18th century northern cloth halls.
Dating from 1779, when it was built as a Cloth Hall for the trading of ‘Pieces’ of cloth (a 30 yard length of woven woollen fabric produced on a handloom), the Piece Hall was the most ambitious and prestigious of its type when built and it now stands in splendid isolation as the only remaining example. It is one of Britain’s most outstanding Georgian buildings.
It’s now home to a host of shops, cafes and even an art gallery. Events of all kinds take place throughout the year
Grand Central & the Piece Hall
Our relationship with The Piece Hall was established in 2017 as their official travel partner. Halifax is one of the communities Grand Central serves and The Piece Hall forms a big part of the cultural and social environment locally. We are extremely proud to support the venue and its exciting events programme.
In the past, we have supported their work with various pop-up events at London Kings Cross station. Through our support of these events and other activities we have been promoting Halifax as a destination and generating as much interest as possible about destinations along our serviced routes.
