A person has been hit by a train in the East Croydon area.

Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, some lines in the area are closed. Trains may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Customer Advice:

If you have not yet started your journey, please delay travelling until later in the day.

If you are travelling now, you will need to use an alternative route, and your journey may take at least 60 minutes longer than usual.

Service is expected to be amended as follows:

  • Gatwick Express services will not run
  • Southern- Victoria to Reigate trains will not run- Watford Junction to East Croydon services will instead run between Watford Junction and Selhurst- London Bridge to East Croydon services will instead run between London Bridge and Selhurst
  • Thameslink- Bedford to Three Bridges trains will not run- Bedford to East Grinstead trains will not run- Peterborough to Horsham services will stop additionally at Salfords and Earlswood

You can use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on:

  • Alternative Southern and Thameslink services on any reasonable route towards your destination
  • Great Western Railway services between Gatwick / Redhill and Dorking Deepdene which is within walking distance of Dorking and connections between Horsham and London Victoria
  • South Western Railway services between Portsmouth / Southampton / Havant and Clapham Junction / London Waterloo
  • London Underground on any reasonable route
  • Metrobus routes between Redhill and Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, and Brighton
  • London Trams services between East Croydon, West Croydon, Mitcham Junction, and Wimbledon

If you're waiting on a train which is delayed between stations:

If your train is delayed between stations, please remain where you are and listen to announcements, or speak to staff for further information. Gatwick express, Thameslink and Southern are aware of your location, and teams will be doing everything they can to help you continue your journey.

Please don't leave the train unless you are asked to do so. Other trains may still be moving in the area, and the track is also a very hazardous environment. In areas where the trains are powered by an electric third rail, this usually stays live and dangerous during incidents, and looks the same as other rails.
