Lines have now reopened following a road vehicle colliding with a bridge between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport. However, whilst service recovers, trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 15 minutes.

Customer Advice

There are some delays to trains between East Croydon / Redhill and Gatwick Airport due to a car hitting a bridge in the Earlswood area.

If your train has already been travelling through this area, it is likely to be delayed by around 10-15 minutes. However further trains should be able to run normally.

We don't recommend you use any alternative routes at the moment, but please leave extra time.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

A car had struck a railway bridge in the Hooley Lane area, near Earlswood station.

There was initially a speed restriction for trains travelling through the area, so your journey may still take longer than usual, as this caused congestion.

Network Rail staff have now attended and confirmed the bridge is safe for normal use.

If you see a vehicle hitting a bridge, or you think a bridge has been damaged, please report it using the phone number on the identification plate fixed to the bridge. If no plate is provided, please report it to the police by calling 999.
