All lines have now reopened following an earlier failure of the electricity supply between Letchworth Garden City and Hitchin. This means that trains running between Royston and Hitchin may continue to be cancelled or delayed by up to 35 minutes.

This issue is expected to continue to impact services until 10:00.

Customer advice:

Trains operating in the Letchworth Garden City area will be delayed by at least 15 minutes. Services will be on the move shortly now that the power has been restored. Please allow extra time to reach your destination.

If you're waiting on a train which is delayed between stations:

If your train is delayed between stations, please remain where you are and listen to announcements, or speak to staff for further information. Staff will get you moving as soon as possible. Staff are aware of your location, and teams will be doing everything they can to help you continue your journey.

Please don't leave the train unless you are asked to do so. Other trains may still be moving in the area, and the track is also a very hazardous environment.

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on:

  • Alternative Great Northern or Thameslink trains via any reasonable route
  • Greater Anglia services between Cambridge and Ely, and also between Cambridge, Hertford East and London Liverpool Street for connections into central London
  • London Underground services between London St Pancras International /London Kings Cross and London Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale for connections with Greater Anglia services

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Earlier this morning, several sections of track experienced temporary power losses, which caused trains to come to a stand. This was impacting services in the Letchworth Garden City area. This meant that some services couldn't move as normal until power was restored.

If you're on a train which is being held in the area, it may take longer for us to get you to the next station, and onwards to your destination. Please listen out for information from the crew or contact us on social media if you need further support with your journey.
