A road vehicle has struck bridge at Tulse Hill means all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running through this station may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

This is expected until 15:00.

Customer Advice

As a safety precaution all services that travel over the Tulse Hill area are currently at a stand.

This is to allow for an inspection of the bridge - Network Rail colleagues are heading to site now.

This will affect a large number for routes for both Southern and Thameslink, primarly:

Services between:

  • London Bridge and Beckenham Junction
  • East Croydon and London Bridge (services via Tulse Hill)
  • Sutton and St Albans

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on the following :

  • Mutually between Southern and Thameslink
  • Any reasonable route on London Underground services
  • London Buses, on reasonable routes between East Croydon
  • Southeastern between Beckenham Junction and London Victoria
  • London Overground via any reasonable route
  • Tramlink between Wimbeldon and Beckenham Junciton
  • South Western Railway services between London and Wimbledon

Can you tell me more about the incident?

When a road vehicle collides with a railway bridge this is called a bridge ‘bash’ or 'strike'. Bridge strike incidents can be dangerous to both road and rail users.

To allow Network Rail engineers to carry out extensive safety checks, the railway bridge is either temporarily closed or an emergency speed restriction is put in place. This can cause delays to both road users and rail passengers.

If you witness a bridge strike you should report it using the phone number on the identification plate fixed to the bridge. If no plate is provided you should report it to the Police by calling 999.
