A broken down train at Sutton is causing disruption on the line towards Epsom Downs. As a result, trains may be cancelled or revised.
Belmont, Banstead and Epsom Downs will not be served.
Disruption is expected until 12:00.
A broken down train at Sutton is blocking Platform 4 at this station. This platform is used by trains towards Epsom Downs, and as a result, Southern can't serve this route at the moment. Trains which usually travel towards Epsom Downs are likely to be terminated at Sutton, diverted to Epsom or cancelled. This will then cause changes to trains in the return direction, heading into London. If you are travelling to or from Belmont, Banstead or Epsom Downs, which are the affected stations without a train service, you'll need to use an alternative route for your journey. Please leave at least 20-30 minutes of extra time to do this. Ticket acceptance on alternative routes: Your Southern ticket will be accepted at no extra cost on:
Note: Tattenham Corner is approximately 25 minutes walk from Epsom Downs. Can you tell me more about the incident? Unfortunately, the 09:30 London Victoria to Epsom Downs service has developed a fault. The nature of the issue means it can't move, so it's blocking the line through the Sutton area towards Epsom Downs. It's likely that in this case, Southern will need to send their specialist engineers to site, known as "fitters". Southern have fitters based in key locations around the network, 24 hours a day, and they are able to attend anywhere on our routes. Once they are on site, they will then monitor progress updates and ensure that the railway can be reopened as promptly as possible. They may also need to send another train to tow the defective one away. This procedure, known as arranging a rescue train, will be done as quickly as possible, usually by sending a similar type of train to attach. The combined train will be taken out of use and sent to a depot.
