Short notice cancellations are expected in the north west on Sunday 27 October. Please check before you travel.

Services on some routes in and around the north west may be subject to disruption.

Do not travel on the following routes:

  • Manchester Victoria - Chester
  • Manchester Piccadilly - Stoke-on-Trent

Replacement buses will be running on the following routes:

  • Lancaster - Morecambe (most of the day)
  • Manchester Victoria - Southport

Disruption on other routes – check before travelling

Trains are running at a reduced frequency (with up to two hours between services), along with a limited bus service. Please check before you travel as you may be delayed and services are expected to be extremely busy:

  • Preston - Blackpool South
  • Manchester – Liverpool (via Newton-le-Willows and Warrington Central)
  • Manchester – Crewe
  • Bolton – Stalybridge

Services on other routes in and around the north west may also be subject to disruption.

You are encouraged to plan ahead and check your journey before travelling, particularly last trains of the day, as they may be earlier than usual or cancelled at short notice.

Trains currently showing may not run, control teams are working to update the train plan but you should check closer to the time of travel.

You may use your ticket at no additional cost with the following train operators in the event of your planned Northern train being cancelled, providing there is no alternative Northern service within 60 minutes of the cancellation:

East Midlands Railway on the following routes:

  • Manchester stations - Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central

TransPennine Express on the following routes:

  • Preston - Liverpool Lime Street
  • Manchester stations - Stalybridge
  • Manchester stations - Liverpool Lime Street
  • Sheffield - Stockport - Manchester Piccadilly
  • Manchester Airport - Preston - Oxenholme

Transport for Wales on the following routes:

  • Manchester stations - Crewe
  • Manchester stations - Chester

Additionally, tickets will be accepted on Blackpool Transport buses between Blackpool and Lytham St Annes.
