A tree is blocking the railway between Wigan North Western and Huyton, which means all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations will be cancelled or diverted via St Helens Junction.

All stations between Wigan North Western and Huyton will not be served.

Disruption is expected until 18:00.

Effect on service:

Blackpool North - Liverpool Lime Street services will divert where possible via St Helens Junction and will run express between Wigan North Western and Huyton (in both directions).

Wigan North Western - Liverpool Lime Street services are cancelled.

Alternative travel suggestions:

To help you with your journey, you may use your Northern ticket, at no extra cost on:

• Alternative Northern or TransPennine Express service via any reasonable route. Routes to Wigan are available via Manchester stations
• Mersey Rail services between Liverpool Central - Southport (in both directions) to maintain connections to Wigan Wallgate

Road Transport:

Limited replacement road transport will be in operation as below:

• A coach operated by Ocean Travel will depart Wigan North Western at 15:50 calling at all stations to Huyton
• A coach operated by Ocean Travel will depart Huyton at 16:00 calling at all stations to Wigan North Western

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that bicycle’s, e-bikes and dogs (excluding service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.

Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes when using road replacement transport.
