Southern are working on alternative transport currently, and will update you as soon as we have any updates. You are advised to travel later this morning if possible, or use alternative routes.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

When items make their way onto the tracks it may be necessary to close the line in order to safely remove them to prevent any damage to trains and railway infrastructure. Most items will require specially trained staff to attend and retrieve the item in question due to the hazardous nature of the railway.

Large obstructions such as trees can cause issues for a considerable amount of time, often blocking multiple trains and connecting lines of routes, as we wait for specialist teams to arrive and work to remove the obstruction.

This will likely cause delays and queues leading to congestion especially  at peak times, which can cause knock-on delays for trains much further away or much later in the day.
