Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Newton-le-Willows / Wigan North Western and Manchester Oxford Road / Manchester Victoria all lines are currently closed. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed or diverted.

Disruption is expected until 13:00.

Customer advice:

Northern

If you are travelling between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester stations you can travel via Warrington Bank Quay.

If you are travelling between Chester and Manchester Victoria you can travel via Stockport or alternatively travel on Transport for Wales services between Chester and Newton-le-Willows, a rail replacement bus service will operate between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester Victoria.

Alternative travel suggestions:

To assist you with your journey your ticket will be accepted on Transport for Wales services via any reasonable route.

Ticket restrictions have been lifted during this disruption.

An hourly road transport service will be in operation between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester Victoria from 06:30, calling at all stations.

Journey times will be extended by 1 hour whilst travelling by road transport.

TransPennine Express

You should continue to travel as planned, however, your journey may be delayed, diverted or cancelled.

If the train you have a ticket for is cancelled, you can travel on any TransPennine Express, Northern, or LNER service within the two hours before or after your cancelled service.

If you require any connecting services, please check information screens or speak to a member of staff.

Rail replacement transport has been requested to run between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria, calling at Lea Green and Newton-Le-Willows.

Please be advised that journey times may be extended by 90 minutes whilst travelling by rail replacement transport.

The emergency services and Network Rail are on site. This incident has also caused a failure of the overhead line equipment.
