A fault with the signalling system between Lewes and Wivelsfield means all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running through these stations may be delayed or diverted via Brighton.
Disruption is expected to continue until 09:00.
Customer Advice
Southern services cannot run directly between Lewes and Wivelsfield, via Cooksbridge and Plumpton. This affects trains in both directions.Â
This is due to a major fault with the signalling system in the area.Â
Trains between Eastbourne and London Victoria will divert via Brighton, which may take up to 15-20 minutes longer than usual. This means Cooksbridge and Plumpton will not be served.Â
Southern will be providing taxis to serve these stations, and there will be a wait for these to arrive, so it may be easier to travel once the route reopens.Â
If you are travelling towards Cooksbridge or Plumpton, please speak to staff as soon as possible so we can help plan your journey.Â
If you are travelling from either of these stations, please push the green Emergency button on the station Help Point, and the Southern control room staff will assist you directly.Â

Can you tell me more about the incident?Â
Network Rail have advised that a number of signals have failed and the control system for level crossings has also developed a fault. As a failsafe measure, trains will be unable to run on this route until the issue is resolved. They are working to send staff to site as a priority, and we are waiting to receive further updates.
