Overhead wire problems between Chelmsford and Shenfield means that the line towards Liverpool Street and Stratford is blocked. Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 12:00.

Customer advice

We are receiving reports from Network Rail of overhead wire problems between Chelmsford and Shenfield. The line towards London Liverpool Street is blocked. The line from London towards Chelmsford remains open.

Network Rail response teams are on site and have discovered a tree in contact with the overhead wires. There is currently no timescale for when Greater Anglia expect the line to re-open.

Routes affected:

  • Services between Norwich and London Liverpool Street
  • Ipswich – London Liverpool Street
  • Clacton-on-Sea – London Liverpool Street
  • Colchester Town – London Liverpool Street
  • Braintree - London Liverpool Street

Service impact

Trains between Chelmsford and Shenfield are disrupted.

With only one line open, trains are having to share this in both directions. Consequently, fewer trains will be able to run and those that do run may be delayed.

This is called "bi-directional working" and is similar to when a lane is closed on a road, and temporary traffic lights are being used for vehicles to use the opposite lane.

Please be prepared for a delay to your journey. You may need to take a different train than originally planned.
