At 15:12Â Southern received reports of a lorry colliding with a bridge at Amberley. As a precaution trains are running a a reduced speed through the affected area. Network Rail quick response team is on their way to site to investigate.
When a motor vehicle collides with a railway bridge this is called a bridge 'bash' or 'strike'. Bridge strike incidents can be dangerous to both road and rail users. To allow Network Rail engineers to carry out extensive safety checks, the railway bridge is either temporarily closed or an emergency speed restriction is put in place. This can cause delays to both road users and rail passengers.
