Heavy rainfall is forecast to affect journeys in north west England and Scotland on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 October. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings.
Between 100 and 130mm of rain is expected in Cumbria and South Lanarkshire on higher ground. As a result, Network Rail have imposed a series of speed restrictions for safety at several locations. With the restrictions in place, delays of up to 90 minutes can be expected on services to and from Scotland on the West Coast Main Line.
For customers travelling North of Preston:
Avanti West Coast advise Do Not Travel due to the travel disruption expected. This applies to all Avanti West Coast journeys to or from Glasgow Central, Motherwell, Edinburgh, Lockerbie, Carlisle, Penrith, Oxenholme Lake District and Lancaster on Wednesday 27 October and Thursday 28 October. Customers can amend their journey in advance or claim a refund from their point of purchase.
A limited train service will operate North of Preston, subject to further revisions on the day:
Mutual ticket acceptance with TransPennine Express is in place on Wednesday 27 October and Thursday 28 October for journeys North of Preston.
For customers travelling South of Preston:
A full timetable is planned to operate. Customers should continue to travel as planned and normal ticket restrictions remain in place.
Disruption to services may extend into Friday 29 October and further details will be provided in advance. Please check before you travel.
