Tomorrow, Sunday 1 December, in addition to possible disruption due to the weather and engineering work, there are planned cancellations on a number of routes in the North West.

hese cancellations will affect:

  • Wigan – Stalybridge:  Replacement bus from Wigan to Bolton (via Westhoughton) and replacement bus from Manchester Victoria to Stalybridge.
  • Lancaster – Morecambe: Rail replacement service will be in place between Lancaster and Morecambe.
  • Blackpool South – Blackburn - a reduced service will operate and passengers can also use alternative services via Preston to Blackpool North or Blackpool South direct service
  • Manchester Victoria – Clitheroe - Customers should use alternative services between Manchester Victoria and Bolton. Replacement bus will operate between Salford Crescent and Clitheroe serving all intermediate stations
  • Manchester Piccadilly - Hadfield – This service will be one service per hour with passengers also able to use alternative rail services on this route.

Each week, we are having to adjust our Sunday timetable and as a result, our on-board crew rosters, on a small number of routes in the north west. There are several factors impacting on our ability to run these services, including engineering work and being able to match employees’ availability within their working agreements.

We do not cancel services lightly and routes with cancelled Sunday service are chosen carefully to minimise the impact on customers. On each of the affected routes, our customers will have a range of alternative options available to them including other Northern services, trains run by other operators or rail replacement road transport. All routes with pre-planned cancellations are advertised via the Northern website each Friday.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause our customers. Please check immediately before you travel.

All the planned cancellations will be fully updated on the Northern website or National Rail Enquiries websites and apps overnight, so customers should check on Saturday morning for the latest information.
