Urgent engineering works between East Croydon and Oxted means trains between these stations may be disrupted. As a result, trains may be cancelled or revised. This is expected until 01:00 on Friday 29 March.
Customer Advice
Urgent engineering works will be taking place between East Croydon and Oxted tonight, 27 into 28 March, and tomorrow night, 28 into 29 March.
Because of these works, some late-night and early-morning trains will need to be changed.
Where late-night trains are amended, there will still be alternative trains between London and East Croydon, as well as some local services between Oxted and either East Grinstead or Uckfield.
This means trains will avoid the closed part of the railway, but buses will need to replace trains between East Croydon and Oxted.
If your train is cancelled from London Bridge, London Victoria or Clapham Junction, please travel as far as East Croydon on the next available train, and then change there for onward buses.
In addition, to provide onward connections, some buses will operate through to East Grinstead and Uckfield, to provide connections to each destination.
Please check journey planners carefully if you are travelling on this route. Because buses are replacing parts of some train journeys, you may need to change more often to get to your destination.
Journeys may take around 30-90 minutes longer than usual if you need to use a bus service, depending on how far you are travelling.
Alternative journey options:
Alternative public transport routes will be very limited at the affected time of day.
However, if you prefer, you may use alternative Southern or Thameslink services on any reasonable route.
This includes Southern services on the Caterham route. You can use Purley Oaks station instead of Sanderstead, either Purley or Kenley instead of Riddlesdown, and either Whyteleafe or Whyteleafe South instead of Upper Warlingham.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
Network Rail have advised that they need to close the railway between the Croydon area and Oxted for extra engineering works. These are vital to allow the railway to continue to run normally. To allow their staff to access the track, staff will avoid sending trains through the affected area, and instead Southern will provide replacement transport.
