Thirsk railway station is just over a mile away from the town centre so, after you’ve arrived, you’ll need to drive into town or take the scenic 30-minute walk. Thirsk station car park is located at the top of the station stairs, just opposite The Old Red House pub.

Where do I catch my train?

Thirsk station has an entrance on either side: one side can be accessed via the station car park, and the other is just by the side of Station Road, next to the drop-off point. Both entrances take you to the footbridge, with separate staircases leading down to platforms 1 and 2.

Southbound trains to London King’s Cross depart from platform 1, the one closest to the car park. Trains to Middlesborough, Sunderland and other northerly destinations depart from platform 2, closer to the drop-off point.

Step free access is available throughout the station, however customers should note that access to all platforms is via a barrow crossing which is reliant upon staff assistance, and cannot be accessed outside of staffed hours. Customers requiring level access should enter the station through the long-stay car park. An intercom is available next to the barrow crossing gates to contact the station staff to inform them of your arrival. This station is partially staffed. There are train boarding ramps available at this station, and they are also carried on board all TransPennine Express trains.
