What's happened?
Network Rail have received a report of a possible rail defect near Woolwich Dockyard. Engineers are on their way to the site to assess the rail and are expected on site at 09:20.
How does this affect my journey?
Trains are currently unable to run on the line towards London Bridge and may be diverted via the Bexleyheath and Sidcup lines or cancelled.
Trains towards Dartford are not affected.
What should I do?
Please allow extra time to complete your journey and check before you travel. You can use your ticket at no extra cost on:
- London Buses between Dartford and London Bridge
- Docklands Light Railway between Lewisham and Greenwich
- Elizabeth line between Abbey Wood and Stratford
- London Underground

Thameslink
Thameslink services towards London, West Hampstead Thameslink and London will be diverted between Dartford and London Bridge.
This means that the following stations will have no London-bound Thameslink services stopping there until further notice:
- Slade Green
- Abbey Wood
- Plumstead
- Woolwich Arsenal
- Charlton
- Westcombe Park
- Maze Hill
- Greenwich
- Deptford
If you are travelling to or from one of these stations then you may need to use an alternative route to complete your journey. Journeys will take longer than usual so please allow extra time - we'd advise at least an extra 20 minutes.
Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on the following:
- Southeastern services via any reasonable route (excluding high-speed services)
- London Buses between Dartford and London Bridge
- Elizabeth line between Abbey Wood and Farringdon
- London Underground on any reasonable route
- Docklands Light Railway between Greenwich/Royal Arsenal Woolwich and central London

Can you tell me more about the incident?
We've had a report of a possible issue with the track in the Woolwich Arsenal area. Network Rail's engineers are attending as quickly as possible to carry out a detailed inspection.
There are various different types of defects, and the first advice usually comes from drivers or other staff travelling through the area. Response staff will check the location which has been specified and find out whether the track is still supported correctly, whether the rails themselves are in the usual condition, and if there are any problems with the fixings and metalwork which attach the rails to the sleepers.
Until this is done, trains have been stopped from running in the affected direction. This is a necessary safety precaution and we'd like to thank you for your patience.
