Due to the availability of rail replacement buses between East Croydon and Clapham Junction, all Balham lines are disrupted. As a result, a reduced rail replacement service will be in place until 19:30.
Customer Advice
Due to a shortage of buses, a reduced rail replacement service will run on the following routes (in both directions) :
- East Croydon to Clapham Junction via Streatham Common
- Crystal Palace to Balham via Streatham Hill
Please leave at least 30 minutes of extra time for your journey.
If you are waiting for a bus and it has not arrived, you may wish to consider using another route, if there is one available in your area.
Unfortunately, Southern are unable to update journey planners at present. This is because the bus schedules are being changed rapidly, in order to run as many services as possible.
Ticket acceptance on alternative routes:
Southern tickets will be valid at no extra cost on:
- London Buses on any reasonable route which serves stations between East Croydon / Crystal Palace and Central London
- London Underground services, to transfer across London
- London Overground services between: Clapham Junction and Canada Water, Canada Water and Crystal Palace
- South Western Railway services between Wimbledon and London Waterloo
- Trams between Wimbledon, Mitcham Junction and the Croydon area, including West Croydon or East Croydon
- Southern and Thameslink services on any reasonable alternative route, including trains to & from London Bridge

Can you tell me more about the incident?
Bus suppliers have advised that there are fewer buses than needed to run the timetable on these routes. There have been a number of vehicle breakdowns, and whilst attempts are being made to resolve the mechanical issues, there will be a reduced service for some time.
