What’s on in April?

This year, Good Friday falls on 10th April and Easter Monday on 12th April, meaning a lovely long weekend with friends and family (hopefully teamed with some sunnier days!).

If you are looking for ideas to entertain the family at Easter time and beyond, then we have a few ideas up our sleeve for you. From Milton Keynes to Blackpool, there is plenty fun to be had this April!

Blackpool Festival of Running

  • 25th – 26th April 2020
  • Promenade, Blackpool

This April, the Blackpool Festival of Running returns for a two-day celebration of running excellence. Whether you are a running pro or just want to have a go, there is something for everyone to get involved with. The 2K event is open to all runners from age 4 and over and is a chance for anyone to take part in this fantastic sporting event. Other races include a 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon for those who want to test themselves even further. This is a chance to run by the sea and take in the charming Blackpool landmarks whilst keeping active and challenging yourself. The courses are wheelchair and buggy friendly, and power walkers and Nordic walkers are all welcome. Don’t delay, sign up today!

Easter Weekend at Ribble Steam Railway & Museum

  • 10th – 13th April 2020
  • Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston

If steam trains and Easter egg hunts are both your thing, then pop over to Ribble Steam Railway & Museum this April to win a bundle of chocolate-y prizes. This is four days of family fun over the Easter holidays aimed at 3 – 16-year olds. There are regular steam train rides and workshops, as well as an exhibition from the Manchester Model Tram Group, plus an outdoor adventure playground and a Whistle Stop café for freshly ground coffee and bacon rolls. To get there, hop on the train to Preston station and then catch the number 75 or 89 bus from Stand C towards Lea or Fleetwood to arrive at the Museum.

Safari Academy Holiday Workshop,

  • 14th – 17th April 2020
  • Woburn Safari Park, Milton Keynes

If you have teenage kids and are heading towards the Milton Keynes area this Easter-time, then check out the Safari Academy Workshop. During the holidays, the park put on a specialist week aimed at students aged between 14-17, who are potentially interested in a career working with animals. This is a four-day non-residential course for future keepers, zoologists or behaviourists and will give a deep dive into the true working practises that these jobs would entail. Students will get involved in daily animal welfare tasks such as food prep and mucking out, as well as learning about different animals and their specific care. This is a fantastic opportunity for young animal lovers to immerse themselves and build their portfolio for the future. From Milton Keynes Station, you can pop your teenager on the number 34 bus to Woburn Safari Park, which takes approximately one hour.

Exploring our Environment at Coventry Transport Museum

  • From 7th April,
  • Millennium Place, Hales St, Coventry

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, this April the Coventry Transport Museum is showcasing the beauty of our planet as well as highlighting the current challenges that it faces. There will be sessions about the benefits and dangers of plastic, as well as environmental issues surrounding the rise of eco-robots. There will also be playful protests using old plastic bottles and bags for younger guests, as well as earthy craft days where kids can make and take home a mini wormery. Catch a train to Nuneaton Station, where you can then catch a local connecting service to Coventry Rail Station.
