Storm Ciara is expected to bring very strong winds across the country on Sunday 9 February.
As a result of the expected strong winds, speed restrictions are likely to be in place on across the network. If speed restrictions are imposed, journey times will likely be doubled and customers should consider if they can travel at another time. The extended journey times also mean the number of trains we can operate is significantly reduced.
An amended train service will be in operation, with the broad service pattern:
- 1 train an hour London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly via Stoke on Trent.
- 1 train an hour London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street
- 1 train an hour London Euston to Birmingham New Street
- 1 train an hour London Euston to Preston
- 1 train an hour Birmingham New Street to Preston
- 1 train an hour Preston to Glasgow Central
Avanti West Coast are making careful plans and putting in additional resources, however late notice cancellations and delays to services are possible. Customers should check before they travel.
Can I use my ticket at another time?
Customers who choose not to travel on Sunday 9 February can apply for a fee free refund from the point of purchase. Alternatively, tickets dated Sunday 9 February will be valid for travel on an Avanti West Coast service on Saturday 8 February. Customers should travel as close to their booked times as possible. It is expected that cross border services into and from Scotland will be extremely busy on Saturday 8 February. Tickets dated Sunday 9 February will also be valid for travel on an Avanti West Coast service on Monday 10 February after 12:00.
Where an amended timetable is in place seat reservations will not be available.
Avanti West Coast will continue to monitor the weather closely throughout the weekend. Should the bad weather continue into Monday 10 February, it is possible that similar alterations to the train service may be required.
