Customer Advice
The Situation
Network Rail have informed us of a track circuit failure at Ipswich, which is preventing access in and out of some platforms. Trains need run at a slower and safer speed on the lines that are open. Trains on the following routes are affected;
- Intercity between Liverpool Street and Norwich
- Ipswich - Felixstowe
- Ipswich - Lowestoft
- Ipswich - Cambridge
- Ipswich - Peterborough
- Non Intercity trains between Liverpool Street and Ipswich will only run as far as Colchester
 Response teams will be attending to investigate and rectify the fault.Â
What is a track circuit failure?
Track circuits are an electrical system that detects the absence of a train on a section of track, and make up part of the signalling system. This information then helps the signalling system know if its safe for another train to proceed. A track circuit failure can delay trains because the signalling system is designed to fail to a safe state. Normally, a failed track circuit will act as if a train is present.Â
