Theft of the signalling cables in the Newark area is causing disruption to journeys running through Newark Castle and Newark North Gate.
As a result, the following routes are affected:
- Trains are unable to run between Newark North Gate / Newark Castle and Lincoln Central.
- Trains running between Grantham and Retford through Newark North Gate may be delayed by up to 60 minutes.
Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

What has happened?
There is a theft of signalling cables near Collingham. This is between Nottingham and Lincoln Central and is disrupting trains on the Leicester / Nottingham / Lincoln / Grimsby route and the Lincoln / Newark North Gate route.
Network Rail are sending teams to the area, we do not have an estimate for when they will arrive. We are expecting the lines to remain closed for the rest of the evening.
How does this affect my train?
Trains are unable to run between Nottingham and Lincoln Central in both directions for the rest of the evening.
Trains that run from Leicester towards Grimsby will be terminated at Nottingham
Trains that run between Grimsby Town and Leicester will terminate at Lincoln Central.
Trains that run between Newark North Gate and Lincoln Central are unable to run in both directions.
Trains will still be able to run between Lincoln Central and Grimsby in both directions.
At present we are expecting the problem to continue for the rest of the evening. We are expecting to run a normal service on Monday 26 February on this route.
How do I get where I need to be?
If you are travelling from Lincoln Central to Nottingham and between Nottingham and Lincoln Central, you can use Northern services via Sheffield, this will add up to 60 minutes to your journey time.
Rail replacement buses are being requested to run between Nottingham and Lincoln Central in both directions. However, these are not yet available.
As it is late in the day, the number of connecting trains are limited. If you have already started your journey, staff will make every effort to get you to your destination by rail. If not, we will make alternative arrangements for you. Please speak to a member of our team if you are concerned about your connecting journey.
If you have sourced your own transport this evening due to the line closure, please obtain a receipt and send in a refund request to East Midlands Railway's Customer Service Centre.
