A fault with the signalling system between West Norwood and Streatham Hill means that the line is blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations will be cancelled or diverted.

Disruption is expected until 10:00.

Customer Advice

A fault with the signalling system in the Norwood Junction area means the following service amendments will apply:

  • Services that normally run between London Bridge and London Victoria (via Streatham Hill and Forest Hill) will be diverted between London Bridge and London Victoria, running via Tulse Hill and Peckham Rye instead.
  • Services that normally run between West Croydon and London Victoria (via Crystal Palace and Balham) will be diverted and run via Selhurst and Streatham Common instead.

Please note that some of these services may be cancelled instead.

Please check before you travel this morning, as you'll likely need to use an alternative route to complete your journey. Journey times will be extended as a result - Southern advises allowing at least an extra 20 minutes journey time.

Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on the following:

  • Southern services via any reasonable route
  • London Overground services on any reasonable route between West Croydon / Crystal Palace and central London.
  • London Buses between London Bridge and London Victoria via any reasonable route (including via the West Norwood and Streatham areas).
  • London Underground via any reasonable route including between London Terminals
  • London Trams between East Croydon and West Croydon

Can you tell me more about the incident?

A track circuit failure is affecting trains travelling in both directions on the route between West Norwood and Streatham Hill.

This part of the network uses track circuits to detect the position of trains. These are electrical systems which monitor whether a train is on a section of track. They operate as part of the signalling system, which is designed to be "fail safe".

In this case, the track circuit has failed in the vicinity of a set of points (moveable sections of track that allow trains to move from one line to another). The set of points can no longer be moved, and as such Southern cannot run trains in either direction between West Norwood and Streatham Hill.

Network Rail teams are en route and you'll be provided with further updates as they're available.
