A lorry colliding with a bridge at Catford is causing disruption to journeys between Peckham Rye and Bromley South.

Services may be cancelled or revised.

We anticipate disruption will continue until 16:00.

Customer Advice

Trains are unable to run on any routes to / from Catford station. If you are currently on a train which has been at a stand, please remain on-board and await further updates from train crew.

This will impact the following services:

  • Thameslink services between London Blackfriars and Sevenoaks

Where possible trains will be diverted between Elephant & Castle and Shortlands, but this means there will be no trains service at the following stations:

  • Crofton Park
  • Catford
  • Bellingham
  • Beckenham Hill
  • Ravensbourne

You will need to use an alternative route to complete your journey this afternoon, please note that this will extend your journey time by at least 30 minutes.

To assist with onward travel you can use your ticket at no extra cost with the following:

  • Southeastern services via any reasonable route, including between Orpington & London and Sevenoaks & London. Please note that their services via Bromley South may also be disrupted by this incident.
  • Southern and Thameslink services via any reasonable route
  • London Underground via any reasonable route, including between London Terminals.

Alternative station options:

  • For Bromley South or Shortlands, we'd advise using Bromley North instead, which is an approximate 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive away.
  • For Ravensbourne, we'd advise using Beckenham Junction instead, which is an approximate 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive away.
  • For Beckenham Hill or Bellingham, we'd advise using Lower Sydenham instead, which is an approximate 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive away.
  • For Catford, we'd advise using Catford Bridge instead, which is a 1 minute walk away.
  • For Crofton Park, we'd advise using Honor Oak Park instead, which is an approximate 15 minute walk/3 minute drive away.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

When a motor vehicle collides with a railway bridge this is called a bridge ‘bash’ or 'strike'. Bridge strike incidents can be dangerous to both road and rail users. To allow Network Rail engineers to carry out extensive safety checks, the railway bridge is either temporarily closed or an emergency speed restriction is put in place. This can cause delays to both road users and rail passengers.

If you witness a bridge strike you should report it using the phone number on the identification plate fixed to the bridge. If no plate is provided you should report it to the Police by calling 999.
