A fault with the signalling system in the Thornaby area is causing disruption to journeys between Northallerton and Middlesbrough / Sunderland.

Services may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

We anticipate disruption will continue until 21:00.

Northern Customer Advice

Services between Middlesbrough and Darlington/Newcastle are currently being disrupted due to a complete loss of signalling in the Bowesfield Junction area.

Effect on service:

Newcastle to Middlesbrough - Currently unable to operate in both directions

Middlesbrough to Darlington - Currently unable to operate in both directions

Middlesbrough to Saltburn - Currently able to run but still subject to short notice alterations

Darlington to Bishop Auckland - Currently able to run but still subject to short notice alterations

Alternative travel suggestions:

Northern passengers are able to use tickets on LNER, CrossCountry and TransPennine Express services between Newcastle and Darlington in both directions, the line between Darlington and Middlesbrough is also currently blocked.

Rail Replacement:

To assist customers to complete their journey, road transport has been requested, any recruited vehicles will be advertised accordingly.

TransPennine Express Customer Advice

Replacement road transport is being requested to run between York and Middlesbrough in both directions. Passengers travelling between Middlesbrough and Saltburn should speak to a member of staff or visit station help points for further information on alternative road transport.
