Can you tell me more about the incident?
A train has been stopped in the St Pancras area by a problem with the equipment it uses to detect information from the Automatic Warning System (AWS).
AWS is part of the signalling equipment. It provides an audible and visible reminder within train cabs, giving drivers an extra alert about what the signal ahead is showing. This is particularly important when trains are travelling in restricted visibility, such as fog or snowfall, but the system is always active, keeping you safe during your journey. AWS is also used to warn drivers about some types of speed restrictions.
With an AWS fault on a train, these warnings might not be available as usual, so the service will be stopped and the driver will speak to Network Rail, as well as fleet maintenance teams. If the equipment cannot be fixed, the train will need to continue at much slower speeds than usual, and it will be taken out of use at the first suitable place. This can all cause some congestion affecting other trains in the area.
