Heavy rain has flooded the railway between Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness. As a result, all lines between these stations are closed.
Trains are unable to run between these stations.
The line is expected to remain closed until the start of service on Friday 29 November.
Effect on service:
Lancaster - Carlisle services via Barrow-in-Furness will run between Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle only.
Manchester Airport - Barrow-in-Furness services will run between Manchester Airport and Lancaster only.
Barrow-in-Furness - Carlisle services via Workington are running normally, however some services may be subject to delay or short notice alteration due to train crew displacement caused by this incident.
Alternative travel suggestions:
Northern tickets may be used at no additional cost on board TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast services between Preston and Lancaster in both directions until Friday 29 November.
Rail replacement transport:
From Monday 25 November, road transport will operate between Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness in both directions.
Please note that full size coaches will not call at Silverdale or Arnside. Customers for these stations should board the 16 seater minibuses which will call at all stations.
All replacement road transport will be operated by Travellers Choice, South Lakes and S Line.
Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes when using road replacement transport.
Additional information:
Network Rail staff are on site and are working to clear the flood water and make the necessary repairs to the track to allow train running to recommence. The current estimate for the line to reopen is early morning on Friday 29 November.
