Emergency services are dealing with an incident on the railway between Darlington and Newcastle, closing all lines. Services running between these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Major disruption is expected until 12:30.

CrossCountry customer advice:

You can use your ticket with the following train companies at no extra cost:

  • TransPennine Express via any reasonable route until further notice
  • Avanti West Coast between Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street in both directions until further notice
  • Northern are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice
  • LNER are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice

LNER customer advice:

You can use your ticket with the following train companies at no extra cost:

  • Avanti West Coast between London Euston, Manchester and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh
  • TransPennine Express between Manchester, Leeds and York / Newcastle
  • Northern between Carlisle and Newcastle and Sheffield and Leeds.
  • East Midlands Railway (EMR) between London St Pancras, Leicester and Sheffield
  • CrossCountry between Sheffield, Doncaster / Leeds, York and Newcastle / Edinburgh

Nothern customer advice:

Road transport has been requested to run between Darlington - Newcastle.

Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes whilst travelling by Rail Replacement transport.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

TransPennine Express customers may travel on the following alternative routes at no extra cost:

  • TransPennine Express services between York and Thornaby
  • Northern Services between Thornaby and Newcastle
  • CrossCountry and LNER services between York and Newcastle when services resume

Replacement road transport has been requested to operate between Newcastle and York and Northallerton and Newcastle in both directions.

Customers at Northallerton can also travel on TransPennine Express services towards York.
