A fault with the signalling system between Vauxhall and London Waterloo trains have to run at a reduced speed on some lines towards London Waterloo. As a result, services may be delayed by up to 15 minutes or revised.

We have been informed that there is a track circuit failure between Vauxhall and London Waterloo. This means that trains will have to run at reduced speed on some lines towards London Waterloo.
Until further notice the following alterations will be necessary:
- Services from Woking to London Waterloo via Esher will run non-stop Surbiton to London Waterloo
- Services from Guildford to London Waterloo via Cobham will run non-stop Surbiton to London Waterloo
- Services from Shepperton to London Waterloo will run via Twickenham and Richmond
- Services from Strawberry Hill to London Waterloo via Kingston will run fast from New Malden to London Waterloo

Can you tell me more about the incident?
A track circuit is one system used by signallers to identify where trains are on the tracks. When these fail, trains have to stop at each affected signal and verify that the track beyond the signal is clear. Once they have authority from the Signaller to continue, they must do so at caution until they have traversed that signalling section. This process takes up to 10 minutes per affected signal.
