A fault on a train in the Grindleford area means all lines are currently closed. As a result, trains running between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

How does this affect my train?

Trains between Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street will be subject to delays and alterations.

How do I get where I need to be?

Please be aware that journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes.

You are able to use your ticket with:

  • TransPennine Express between Leeds and Liverpool Lime Street
  • Northern between Leeds and Nottingham and Manchester and Liverpool Lime Street
  • Avanti West Coast between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly / Liverpool Lime Street and between Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester Piccadilly
  • London Northwestern between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street

Don’t worry about your ticket, East Midlands Railway have already made arrangements with other train companies for you to travel with your original ticket and you shouldn't have to pay any more.

Northern

Alternative travel suggestions:

To assist you with your journey your ticket will be accepted on TransPennine Express services between Huddersfield / Leeds and Manchester stations.

Passengers who require Manchester Piccadilly should travel on the following:

  • Northern services between Sheffield and Leeds to connect with Northern and TransPennine Express services towards Manchester
  • Northern services between Sheffield and Huddersfield to connect with TransPennine Express services towards Manchester

Ticket restrictions have been lifted during this disruption.

What should I do?

Customers can use their tickets to travel on the following alternative train services:

  • CrossCountry services between Sheffield and Leeds
  • TransPennine Express services between Leeds and Liverpool Lime Street
  • Northern services between Doncaster and Sheffield, also between Sheffield and Huddersfield / Leeds

Road replacement transport is being requested to run between Cleethorpes and Doncaster.

Additional Information:

There is a broken down train near Totley tunnel. Network Rail are on site.
