A gas leak near the railway between Sheerness-on-Sea and Sittingbourne is causing disruption to trains between these stations.
As a result of this, trains between these stations will be suspended.
This is expected to continue until the end of the day.
What's happened?
-------------------------
Earlier today, a strong smell of gas was reported in the Swale area. The gas board are on site, and have located the leak. Although it is not actually on the railway, the proximity of it to the railway means that once work commences, trains will not be able to run for safety reasons.
How does this affect my journey?
--------------------------------------------
From 17:00, the line between Sheerness and Sittingbourne will be closed in both directions and trains will be suspended. This will allow the gas board to safely dig up the area surrounding the leak, and carry out repairs.
The 17:12 and 18:12 services from London Victoria to Sheerness will be terminating at Gillingham.
Please note that initial advice is that this will continue in to tomorrow morning, so please keep an eye on journey planners, and check before you travel.
What do I need to do?
------------------------------
We're arranging for buses to replace the trains, but because of the work, the road around Swale will be closed, and no buses will be able to stop. All other stations will be served by the buses.
