A section of defective track has been reported between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly. To allow trains to travel over the affected area, an emergency speed restriction has been imposed.
As a result of this, trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to 15 minutes.
This is expected until the end of the day.
Advice for Avanti West Coast customers:
If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.
Advice for Northern customers:
Services will be impacted as follows:
- Trains running between Manchester Piccadilly and Alderley Edge will not operate. Customers are advised to travel on services towards Crewe
- Trains running between Manchester Piccadilly and Buxton will be operating to a reduced hourly service
- Trains running Manchester Piccadilly and Hazel Grove will not operate. Customers are advised to travel on services towards Buxton

- Avanti West Coast
- TransPennine Express
- Transport for Wales
Ticket restrictions have been lifted during this disruption.

- Northern between Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Airport
- Transport for Wales between Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Airport

- Avanti West Coast between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly
- Northern between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly / Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Airport
- TransPennine Express between Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Airport
