All lines have been reopened following a broken down train between Potters Bar and Alexandra Palace earlier today.
Train services running through these stations may be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 20:00.
Customer Advice
Trains can still run in both directions through the affected area, and all stations still have a train service, but services have been experiencing short-notice delays.
A few trains may be revised to call at fewer stations on their journeys. This will ease congestion and reduce delays for the rest of the evening, but may mean that you need to use a different train to complete your journey.
Please listen carefully to announcements from our station staff and drivers, and please check the screens before you board your train.
This has been affecting Thameslink and Great Northern services running to and from Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage, Hitchin, Peterborough, Cambridge and Kings Lynn.
Some longer-distance operators, including LNER, are also affected.
Can you tell me more about the incident?
The 15:45 Leeds to London Kings Cross service had broken down on one of the two southbound lines in the New Southgate area.
To allow the driver to examine the train and work out the nature of the problem, one of the two northbound lines was also closed for their safety.
Unfortunately, as only half of the lines in the area have been available for trains to use, congestion has been occurring.
The broken down train has now moved and train operators are now working to get the train service back to normal.
