A person has been hit by a train between between Edinburgh and Kirknewton. To allow the emergency services to safely access the railway and carry out their work, all lines between these stations are currently closed.

Trains running between Edinburgh and Carlisle / Motherwell / Glasgow Central may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised

This is expected until 19:30.

Services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central via Shotts are being impacted by this incident.

You may use your ticket on Lothian bus services between Edinburgh and Curriehill at no extra cost.

You may also use your ticket to travel on alternative ScotRail routes as follows at no extra cost:

  • Glasgow Central to Lanark - customers can travel on these services for Uddingston and Bellshill
  • Glasgow Central Low Level services to Motherwell to connect in with local buses to Holytown, Hartwood and Shotts
  • Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street via Bathgate / Falkirk High

If you have had to drive to another station your ticket will be valid to collect your car on your return journey. Speak to a member of staff to validate your ticket.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

Services are currently unable to operate between Edinburgh and Carlisle, in either direction.
