A fault with the signalling system between Deansgate and Manchester Piccadilly is causing disruption to journeys running through these stations.
As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted.
We anticipate disruption will continue until 20:30.
Customer advice:
East Midlands Railway
What has happened?
There is a safety inspection of the track at Castle Field Junction. This is between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime street and is disrupting trains on the Liverpool / Nottingham / Norwich route.
How does this affect my train?
Trains running through the area in both directions will need to be diverted, delays will be minimal but this will mean the following stops are missed: Birchwood, Warrington Central Widnes and Liverpool South Parkway. Where services are unable to divert they will be terminated at Manchester Piccadilly.
Please be aware this may mean some short notice cancellations.
At present, East Midlands Railway are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next 2 hours. As soon as the problem is fixed the priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. East Midlands Railway expect their advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 20:30.
