Customer advice
A number of incidents will disrupt Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services this morning.
A speed restriction over defective track between Brighton and Preston Park is expected to result in delays of around 15 - 30 minutes to services departing Brighton towards London.
A fault with the signalling system between Three Bridges and Gatwick Airport is expected to result in delays or around 15 - 30 minutes, affecting all services running towards London.
The following service changes are expected:
- Gatwick Express services will run between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria only
- Southern and Thameslink services may be subject to short notice alterations and cancellations. Some services may have cancelled stops, will terminate and restart at a different station to normal, or will be cancelled completely
Please check before you travel this morning, as you may need to take a different train than planned, change trains en route or use an alternative route instead. You should allow extra time for your journey - we'd advise an extra 30 minutes.
For journeys between Brighton and London Victoria, it is advised to use a Thameslink services between Brighton and London Blackfriars instead, changing there for London Underground connections to London Victoria. Alternatively, you can board a Thameslink service and change at Haywards Heath, Gatwick Airport or East Croydon for alternative connections to London Victoria.
Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on the following:
- Mutually across Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services on any reasonable route, including between Brighton/the coast and London
- London Underground between London Terminals

Two separate issues are disruptions Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services this morning.
A 5mph speed restriction between Brighton and Preston Park area is expected to cause delays to London-bound trains this morning. Some trains may run using different lines where possible, we've had to reduce the number of services running through the area as a result.
In addition to this, a fault with the signalling system means that one of the London-bound lines is closed between Three Bridges and Gatwick Airport. We can still run, but congestion based delays are expected as a result. Network Rail technicians have attended and require a specialist part to fix the issue, and attempts are being made to source this at present.
