Can you tell me more about the incident?Â
Engineering works are taking longer than planned in the Brighton area. Lines were originally planned to be handed back and 05:00 but are now not expected to be handed back for trains to run as normal on until 05:30.Â
Staff are working to monitor progress updates and run trains as soon as possible.
Network Rail are responsible for railway engineering works. These are designed to maintain and improve the infrastructure, and this can include the track itself, the signals or the points at junctions. Staff will also routinely attend to trees and vegetation by the track, station platforms, electrical supplies and many other parts of the railway.Â
Most engineering works take place overnight or at weekends, keeping disruption to a minimum. If routes are completely closed during planned works, replacement buses or ticket acceptance with other public transport services will be arranged. As these works have overrun, staff will do their best to continue to supply alternative options, but buses may not be available for everyone who'd usually use busier daytime services.
