A speed restriction because of severe weather between Three Bridges and Burgess Hill trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines. As a result of this, trains may be delayed.
Disruption is expected until 20:00.
Customer Advice:
Due to severe weather, trains running between Three Bridges and Burgess Hill, and also between Horsham and Billingshurst, will run at reduced speeds in both directions.
You can continue to travel using your normal route, but please be aware that journeys towards Gatwick Airport, Brighton, or the west coast via Horsham may take up to 10 minutes longer than usual.
Before travelling, please check journey planners and station information boards, and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
When the water level rises above the rails, trains have to reduce their speed to prevent damage to the train. If the track has a live conductor rail, flooding can cause a short circuit and cut power to the trains and trackside equipment.
Heavy rain can also overwhelm the drainage systems, flooding tracks and slowing down trains in the vicinity, causing delays to your journey.
The rail industry responds to extreme weather conditions caused by flooding, and plans to minimise disruption by:
- Building pumping stations in locations which are prone to flooding so that flood water can be quickly pumped away.
- Flood defence systems are deployed, including barriers with a membrane that seals to prevent water from getting through, and inflatable barriers which are filled with flood water.
- Monitor the weather forecasts and deploy defence teams ready for any required action.
We understand delays are frustrating, however, we'd like to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to avoid them.
