A speed restriction over defective track between St Albans City and London St Pancras International means that trains must run at a reduced speed on the line towards London. As result, trains operating between these stations may be delayed by up to 15 minutes.

Disruption is expected until 18:00.

Customer advice

Trains must run at a reduced speed when travelling between St Albans and London St Pancras International when travelling towards London St Pancras International. This is mostly affecting the below services:

  • Between Luton and Rainham (Kent)
  • Between St Albans and Sutton

Whilst this is mainly affecting trains travelling towards London, services travelling back towards St Albans / Luton, may also be subject to delays.

You can still use your normal route to travel but please be aware that your journey may be delayed by up to 15 minutes.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Following earlier reports of a possible issue with the track in the affected area, Network Rail have had to put a speed restriction in place.

Your journey may be delayed by this, and in some cases, there may be some service changes, as this means the network has lower capacity, because trains take longer to travel along each section of track.

Teams are working with track engineers to ensure repairs are planned and completed as quickly as possible. Often, if these works involve the route being closed or a need for complex machinery, they'll need to happen overnight or during a weekend closure. Speed restrictions help prevent any further track damage until this is done.
