A blooming lovely day out for Mirfield volunteers

Mirfield and Roberttown claimed gold at Yorkshire In Bloom 2023 awards this year and it was a double whammy for Mirfield In Bloom, which received the Royal Voluntary Service Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland receive the prestigious award for their volunteer-led work across a wide range of fields including mental health, youth, community, arts and heritage.

All 500 Coronation Champions received a specially designed, official Coronation Champions pin and a signed certificate from His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla and were invited to attend one of the official Coronation celebrations, either the Windsor Castle Coronation Concert or a Coronation Garden Party.

Naturally, we were very happy to transport the volunteers to the coronation party, which took place on 7/8 May 2023.''Thank you for supporting Mirfield in Bloom and enabling us to travel with you to the Coronation Party. We had a great day and I've also learned I've been made coronation champion this week. It's been such an honour!'' said Mirfield in Bloom secretary, Christine Sykes.

Grand Central’s community engagement manager, Hannah Bromage, said, “Being able to help with journeys like this really gets to the heart of what we do. The Mirfield In Bloom team do such a fantastic job of making the town look welcoming. Their determination is astonishing and it’s great they’ve been recognised for their efforts.”
