Where to spend New Year's Eve

If you're planning a trip away to see in the new year, look no further. We've listed some of our favourite New Year's Eve getaway spots and all are accessible via the Grand Central train route. You won't need to worry about how you're getting there – just sit back, relax and leave it all to us.

London

The UK's capital is lively and vibrant, with hundreds of New Year's Eve celebrations happening across the city. There's guaranteed to be something for everyone, whether you're heading away with your partner, friends or family. Celebrate in style this year and bring in 2023 by heading to London.

The London Fireworks Display is an event that residents and tourists look forward to every year.  Join the thousands of people that line the River Thames annually to enjoy the 10-minute spectacle on the South Bank. Watch as the sky lights up from Victoria Embankment to Westminster Bridge, with the fireworks surrounding the iconic London landmarks.

York

Visit the historic city of York and hear The Minster bells bring in the new year. Wrap up warm and share the moment with loved ones at this spectacular landmark.

If you want to continue the night after the clocks strike midnight, head out on the town to the selection of bars that York has to offer. Enjoy a G&T in Evil Eye, which holds the world record for the number of gins stocked! You can also dance the night away in Impossible Wonderbar and Tea Rooms, situated within a Grade II listed building that was originally the home of another festive favourite – Terry's Chocolate Orange!

Our trains run direct into York station. Enjoy special rates and offers on lots of York attractions with your Grand Central ticket.

Doncaster

If you're looking to spend NYE with all the family, Doncaster's Yorkshire Wildlife Park is holding a Winter Illuminations Trail, with tickets available on the 31st of December – the perfect way to celebrate the new year with the kids.

Explore the magic of the glistening trails after dark, filled with hand-crafted lanterns and exciting themes. Featuring over 2,400 metres of bright lights and magic, watch the Wildlife Park come to life with an enchanting atmosphere that the kids will love.

The trail is running on selected dates until 14 January 2023.

Sunderland

Combining city, coast and countryside in one location, there's a reason that Sunderland has plenty of activities to offer, including a New Year's Eve Farewell to 2022 party at The Grand Hotel. Get excited for 2023 at this adult-only event. Enjoy complimentary drinks on arrival, a three-course meal and live entertainment that'll take you into the night.

Or why not see in the new year by celebrating at The Board Inn, where they'll be hosting an event for the biggest night of the year? This local pub accommodates all age groups and has a traditional bar and lounge, real ales and live music.

Northallerton

The North Yorkshire market town of Northallerton is the perfect location for a country escape and a traditional NYE celebration.

Spend the last night of 2022 at Solberge Hall, surrounded by your friends and family. With sparkling decorations, cosy log fires and a relaxing suite waiting for you, you'll receive the ultimate NYE treatment at this Georgian mansion.

Enjoy pre-dinner drinks and a delicious five-course meal, moving on to dancing and drinking before the countdown to midnight.
