The Met Office have issued yellow and amber weather warnings for strong winds until Monday 31 January.
Storm Malik is expected to bring strong winds across Scotland and the majority of Northern England, particularly in exposed coastal areas. This means speed restrictions will be in place on a number of routes.
We highly recommend that customers check their journeys before travelling.
Routes affected:
Edinburgh - Aberdeen
Due to severe weather there are currently no trains able to run between Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
Customers are advised NOT TO TRAVEL north of Edinburgh today.
A very limited rail replacement bus service is in operation between Edinburgh and Aberdeen (this direction only), for customers who are unable to defer travel, however this is subject to weather conditions and will cause significant delays to your journey. They will operate as follows:
- 07:35 Inverness to London Kings Cross service
- 1 x 08:25 Inverness to Edinburgh (direct)
- 2 x 09:05 Inverness to Edinburgh (1 stopper, 1 direct)
- 1 x 09:20 Inverness to Edinburgh (stopper)
- 1 x 09:58 Bay Travel Perth to Edinburgh (all stops)
- 1 x 09:58 Edinburgh Coach Lines (all stops)
- 07:52 Aberdeen to London Kings Cross service
- 2 x 10:00 Aberdeen to Edinburgh (stoppers) operated by Simpson Coaches
- 09:52 Aberdeen to London Kings Cross service
- 2 x 09:52 Aberdeen to Edinburgh (direct) operated by RS Coaches
- 2 x 09:52 Aberdeen to Edinburgh operated by RS Coaches (all stops)
Tickets dates Saturday 29 January may be used for travel on Monday 31 January.
Inverness - Perth
Trains between Inverness and Perth may be cancelled or delayed by up to 40 minutes due to a tree blocking the railway.
Speed restrictions are also in place on the following routes due to high winds, this is causing delays of up to 50 minutes to services:
- Dundee and Arbroath.
- Newcastle and Edinburgh.
