The revisions will take place between 16:00 and 19:00 tonight, and also between 07:00 and 10:00 on Friday 18 October.

Customer advice:

An escalator fault at Highbury & Islington means that there will be changes to some peak-time services.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to board Great Northern services from this station between 16:00 and 19:00 tonight, and also between 07:00 and 10:00 tomorrow, 18 October.

Platforms at this station will be "exit only".

You will still be able to alight from these services and exit the station. You will also be able to make your way from the Great Northern platforms towards the London Overground platforms to board those services.

This station is on the route between Moorgate and either Welwyn Garden City or Gordon Hill / Hertford North / Stevenage.

Changes to other transport operators' services:

We expect that some Victoria Line services will be unable to stop at this station at the affected times.

It is not expected that any changes to London Overground services will occur, but you will not be able to alight from London Overground services and make your way to the Great Northern platforms. This walking route through the station will be closed.

Alternative journey options:

If you would usually board your train at Highbury & Islington, you may use your Great Northern ticket at London Kings Cross, Moorgate, Old Street, Essex Road, Drayton Park or Finsbury Park stations instead.

You may also use your ticket at no extra cost on:

  • London Underground which call at alternative stations, such as Holloway Road or Caledonian Road on the Piccadilly Line, as well as those on any other reasonable route
  • London Buses across the local area

If you would usually change between the Victoria Line and Great Northern services at Highbury & Islington, please consider doing this at Finsbury Park instead. Finsbury Park station is expected to be busier than usual.

We recommend you leave at least 20 minutes of extra time if your journey is affected.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Work is taking place with the station's facilities owner to deal with this as quickly as possible. Until there are sufficient escalators working, the capacity for passengers in the station will be limited. This means some changes to services are needed at the busiest times.
