This weekend engineering work is taking place and Southern have been unable to secure vehicles to provide the usual rail replacement service. You will not be able to travel on these routes.

Saturday 23 September - There will be no rail replacement service between Chichester and Havant, the following stations have no service:

  • Fishbourne, Bosham, Nutbourne, Southbourne, Emsworth & Warblington

Sunday 24 September - There will be no rail replacement service between Barnham and Havant, the following stations have no service:

  • Chichester, Fishbourne, Bosham, Nutbourne, Southbourne, Emsworth & Warblington

As you will not be able to travel on these routes using our services you will need to consider alternative travel arrangements for any essential journeys.

Additionally, buses that we had planned to run between Havant and Southampton will also not run.

Customer Options:

Trains

If you are travelling from the Portsmouth or Southampton areas toward Barnham and Brighton, you will be able to use your ticket with:

  • South Western Railway between Southampton, Portsmouth, Havant, Fratton and Clapham Junction or London Waterloo (Note, SWR have buses from Haslemere to Woking on Sunday)
  • Great Western Railway between Southampton, Portsmouth and Fareham
  • Southern on routes between London Victoria, Clapham Junctionand the Coast to allow travel via Clapham Junction
  • Thameslink on routes between London and Brighton

If you’re travelling between Havant and Fareham you’ll need to use South Western Railway and Great Western Railway services, travelling via Fratton.

Local Buses

Local buses routes are expected to be busy, and we do not expect that they will be able to carry all our customers, therefore we have not been able to arrange for tickets to be accepted on these services.

Car Parking

Passengers that hold a Car Park season ticket will be able to park at Chichester (no train service on Sunday), Angmering, Bognor Regis or Arundel for no additional cost. These car parks might become busy so be aware that you may be unable to park once these are full.

Refunds

If you choose not to make your journey because of this incident and have purchased a single or return ticket (including Advance tickets), dated for travel on Saturday 23 or Sunday 24 September and you don’t use them to travel via an alternative route, you can apply for a full refund from the retailer who you bought the tickets from, without being charged any refund administration fees.

Checking your journey

Be aware that journey planners for this weekend are not up to date, bus are shown but will not run. We expect these buses to be removed from Friday 22 September.

More information about this issue

We work closely with Network Rail to plan for works taking place. Unfortunately, in this case the expected availability of rail replacement drivers is substantially less than anticipated. Along with the wider industry we have seen a reduction in availability of rail replacement drivers in recent years.

We have explored cancelling the engineering work with Network Rail and other alternative journey options to provide a service however we do not believe that we’d be able to provide a reliable and robust service and therefore have reached the decision to advise that there will not be a service.
