Can you tell me more about the incident?
A points failure was reported earlier today between Haywards Heath and Lewes, which prevented trains from using some of the routes through this area.
Network Rail engineers have attended to the fault, which has now been rectified. Trains can begin to run on this route as normal once again, but some trains already in the area may still be delayed up to 15 minutes.
Points are moveable sections of track which can send trains onto different routes at junctions. These are part of the signalling system, generally managed by Network Rail.
Points can stop moving correctly for several reasons. For example, there may be an obstruction in the moving parts, or the electronic control systems may have developed a fault.
