There is a fault with the barriers at a level crossing near Pevensey Bay. As a result, train services running through this station may be delayed by up to 10 minutes or revised. This is expected until 16:00.
Customer Advice:
There is a problem with the barriers at Wallsend Level Crossing, next to Pevensey Bay Station.
This means that the road is closed, and it will not be possible to cross between the platforms at either side of the station. The level crossing is usually the only way to do this, as there is no subway or footbridge at this station.
If you are travelling from Pevensey Bay, and you are unable to reach the usual platform for your train, please take a train in the opposite direction first. You can then change at either Pevensey & Westham or Normans Bay, depending on your direction of travel.
If you are travelling to Pevensey Bay, and you would usually need to use the level crossing to leave the station, you can instead continue to Pevensey & Westham or Normans Bay. You can then change for trains in the opposite direction, calling at the side of the station that you need.
Southern are intending to stop some additional trains at Pevensey Bay to allow you to complete your journey. If this is possible, the times of the extra services will be shown on our live departure boards. Please check these before you travel.
Your ticket will be accepted at no extra cost so that you can do this. Tickets for Pevensey Bay will also be accepted to start or finish journeys at Pevensey & Westham or Normans Bay instead.
There will also be some minor delays to trains as they travel over the crossing. Drivers will need to stop at red signals on the approach, and will then need to gain verbal permission to continue, which takes extra time.
Your journey could be extended, but we don't have an exact estimate for the delay. This will depend on when you are travelling. If you are travelling to or from Pevensey Bay, we do recommend you leave at least 20 minutes of extra time for your journey. If you are making other journeys in the area, please expect a delay of around 10 minutes to your train.

Can you tell me more about this?
We have been advised that the barriers at Wallsend Level Crossing cannot be raised, so the road cannot be opened. Network Rail will need to send specialist engineering teams to attend. Staff are expected on site from around 14.00, and Southern will then closely monitor progress updates as they work to reopen the railway.
