A low speed derailment at Littlehampton is blocking all lines.
Trains at Littlehampton may be cancelled, delayed or diverted. Disruption is expected until 09:00.
How is this currently affecting the train service?
Southern are looking into the impact on the train service as a priority.
Southern are hoping to work around this incident by detaching part of the train involved in the incident, and this would mean they can clear the line used by trains out of Littlehampton. Only the depot at Littlehampton would then be affected. If this occurs, some trains might be displaced in the morning, but trains would be able to serve all stations.
If they can't do this, the early morning service from Littlehampton may need to be suspended.
Can you tell me more about the incident?
A low-speed derailment of an empty train has occurred in the Littlehampton station area. This occurred when the train was being moved to the depot for storage and maintenance.
Southern are working with their on-call teams and Network Rail staff to investigate what has happened.
