Customer advice:
Great Northern
A points failure is causing disruption near Ely station, with trains delayed in the area between Littleport and Ely.
This incident is disrupting Great Northern services on the Kings Lynn route, and unfortunately we don't have an exact estimate for the delays. These are now beyond 45 minutes for some trains. There may also now be some service changes, as some trains and crews are no longer in the right places.
Alternative route options are extremely limited in this area. If this problem continues, we will work to arrange replacement road transport, but we expect this may also be limited.
We recommend you travel once we can confirm the route has reopened.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
A points failure has been reported, and this is preventing trains from travelling south from Ely.
Points are moveable sections of track which can send trains onto different routes at junctions. These are part of the signalling system, generally managed by Network Rail.
Points can stop moving correctly for a number of reasons. For example, there may be an obstruction in the moving parts, or the electronic control systems may have developed a fault.
There are various backup systems which allow signallers to try to "set" the points, and in some cases, the points may be available for trains in one of the directions they serve, but not another.
Teams are working with Network Rail to deal with this. Response teams are in the local area, and are awaiting progress updates.
