A fault with the signalling system between Shoreham-by-Sea and Worthing means that trains have to run at reduced speed on the line towards Worthing.
As a result, trains running to and from these stations may be delayed or revised.
We anticipate disruption will continue until 06:30.
Customer Advice
Early morning trains may be delayed by up to 10-15 minutes between Shoreham-by-Sea and Worthing. This will affect trains travelling through this area towards West Worthing, Littlehampton, Chichester, Portsmouth or Southampton Central.
You can still use your normal route, but please leave extra time. If you are changing between trains, some connections may be affected, and you may need to use an alternative service.
Occasionally, some late-running trains may also need to call at fewer stations en-route.
You can check whether your journey will be affected by using the live map, and you can also check departures from your station here.
Can you tell me more about the incident?
During overnight electrical works, a fault has developed within the track circuit equipment in the East Worthing area. Track circuits use electrical currents to detect and monitor the passage of trains. When they fail, trains cannot be allowed to proceed into the area automatically. Instead, drivers must stop and gain verbal permission from the signaller to proceed, and then travel at slower speeds, which takes extra time.
